My Archives: August 2001

I got home tonight around 10:30 pm and saw the bike out front, but no car in the garage. The lights were on, the suitcases were gone, but the helmet was on the couch. Still buttloads of furniture and shit not yet packed in her room. Around 11:30, while I was in my room, I heard the door open. I hollered "Hello," but I guess no one heard me, because there was no reply. They must have heard the sound of showtunes and IM dings coming from my computer, but they didn't peek in. Whatev. I haven't checked out to see how much more they took on this trip - I assume they're gone again. Hang on, let me check.

< scamper scamper scamper >

Helmet is gone, suitcase has moved, a few things noticably missing, but a heckuva lot of moving left. I hope they have the sense to quit for the night when Matthew goes to sleep. Sigh.

Seth Wax will be on the couch for a few days next week, I think Monday through Wednesday night. Not like either of you know who Seth is, but he will be. He's an interesting guy. He was NERUSY president a few years after me. (Three years later - he came right after Audrey.) Anyway, he assumed the position right when I had my whole revelation about the role of religion in my life, and I think I seriously disturbed him by telling him too much too soon about how I felt my days in USY played out over the next several years. Regardless, he got over it, and we've remained friendly. He also got very interested in Buddhism and eastern religions in general, so he's headed to Japan for a semester to study Buddhism. Go him! I guess his trip leaves from LA, hence the couch situation.

My co-workers occasionally criticize my vocabulary, specifically for using "big" words.

Show-off words. Ostensibly, they are HARVARD words.

Like impetus, alliterative, and Iditarod.

So, today, while discussing the relative utility of luggage types, I quipped:

"You need to see my Dunkin Donuts duffel bag. That thing is *commodious*!"

Dead silence. Someone had the courage to roll their eyes. One "Um, yeah..." later, I slunk back to my desk in utter shame. Because really, I know better.

Once upon a time there was an apartment. No, wait, let's back up. Once upon a time there were some kids at school... Hand on, rewind. September 1, 1996. The first day of the pre-freshman-week programs at Harvard. Anne and dlevy meet. Sometime in the following two weeks, dlevy and Matthew meet. Sometime after that, Anne and Matthew meet. Sometime after that, Anne and Matthew hook up. dlevy tries to hook up with Matthew and fails. Matthew moves in with dlevy. Anne and dlevy graduate. They all move to California. Anne and dlevy move in with a series of less than optimal roommates. One year later, matthew finally moves in with Anne and dlevy. Two weeks after that, assuming all goes to plan this week, the final less-than-optimal roommate moves out and Matthew can vacate the couch for his very own room. And here we are.

We created this page for a variety of reasons. Mostly, because we're all passive aggressive, and it's easier for us to yell at each other to buy toilet paper, clean the bathroom, and do the dishes in a public forum on-line than it would be to do it at home in person. Also, we tell great stories, particularly when Anne is talking about her mother. We'd like to chronical them. Finally, we're geeks. We like the web. Why the hell not, right?

So, stay tuned for shopping lists, Ma stories, the Long and Involved Saga of the Roommates, pictures of our cat, and more.
